The latest single from modern hard-bop pioneers The Jazz Defenders and soulful powerhouse Hannah Williams is a collaboration forged in musical heaven. This poignant yet dynamic track highlights the remarkable talents that have placed these UK artists at the forefront of modern jazz, funk, and soul. "Hold On To People" is drenched in rich, luscious vocal harmonies, exquisite strings and bags of effortless soul; and perpetrates a strong and humble positive message for a world in increasingly turbulent times.
The Jazz Defenders, whose last two albums both reached the top ten in the U.S. jazz charts, have earned global acclaim for their electrifying performances and virtuosic energy. Led by renowned pianist and composer George Cooper—who has collaborated with the likes of Hans Zimmer, Nigel Kennedy, MF Doom, and The Brand New Heavies—they are known for their commitment to keeping the legacy of hard bop and soul jazz alive.
Meanwhile, Hannah Williams & The Affirmations have achieved international fame since their track "Late Nights & Heartbreak" was sampled by Jay-Z for his Grammy-nominated album *4:44*. Since then, they've graced global stages such as Montreal Jazz Festival and Blue Note in Milan and Tokyo, while collaborating with artists like Tyler the Creator, Pete Rock, and Guy Chambers.
The new single will debut at St George's Bristol on November 22nd, where Hannah Williams & The Affirmations and The Jazz Defenders will perform alongside a world-class string section, with the event hosted by Doc Brown.
